HIGHPOINT PLAZA
A key outcome of the recent Maribyrnong Skate Strategy is the creation of an urban skateable plaza near the significant Highpoint Shopping Centre.
We wanted to create a large visually stunning urban square next to a major tram interchange. Working collaboratively with Darren from Baseplate and Pro skater Andrew Brophy, the plaza has a range of granite sculptural elements and seats, walls and ledges that are all designed to be skated. With s vibrant pink steel posts winding through the space also providing a range of skate options this innovative approach is blurring the lines of what is a skate facility and actually creating an public urban space first that can then be appropriated for skate boarding.
Opened in mid 2016 the park has been a great success.
